Bonefish
Bonefish or Albula Vulpes, according to Wikipedia, can weigh up to 19lbs and measure up to 41 inches. Bonefish tend to spawn in the winter months. This is when you will find large schools of bonefish in both shallow and deep water. A fisherman off the Kona Coast recently caught a bonefish in 250 feet of water. There are photos of bonefish is massive schools in deep water (20,000lbs+) during the spawning seasons. The spawning season will vary each year, typically mid November to March.
During the winter months, fly fishing is hit or miss. You could have an epic day or only see a few fish on the reef. You will have more good days during the summer months.
Our theory is the fish go into deeper water to drop the juveniles and spawn. The juveniles then make their way back to the shallow waters. They have a greater chance of survival in the deeper water.
